Christmas, 2022. What's up? A lot. Kentville has been split into two books. 'Kentville 1' (est. 600 pages) is in very good shape and just needs more images. After 'Kentville 1' will be a book based on Daniel Marvin's military file called 'For The Record' (est. 600 pages). Mary knew nothing of what is in this file, and it tells another story altogether. It is in very good shape and almost ready to go. Next will be 'Kentville 2' (est. 600 pages), and yes, it is ready as well except for images. Finally, the Ottawa/Montreal book (est. 600 pages) is also ready, and I'm not anticipating any image problems there. Depending on how it lays out, Ottawa/Montreal may need two books, but I would rather not. Each book is slightly different, all are a lot of fun, Ottawa is very funny, but I really like 'For The Record'. It had to be done, and Mary would agree.
As for Bear River, I am not promoting it. Instead, I am wondering whether to split it into two books or just re-release it with more images. It's kind of fat already at 618 pages, so it depends on the number of images. I've recreated Bear River and the farm in 3d and plan to test out the renders in the ebook first, which allows color. The 3d isn't slowing me down, because there's only so much editing I can take in a day. Besides, after all the books are out, I plan to immediately begin releasing coffee table sized books of each volume with full-sized images in color, for a total of 12 books. The black and white 6x9" layout is a little restricting, and I think readers will enjoy this expanded format. People are not reading books as much anymore, and I won't get into why, only to say that I plan an all-out assault of pictures, illustrations, documents, newspaper clippings, and any other relevant tidbit to move the reader along.
So when will all this start? I'm running through 'For The Record' right now, just because I needed some distance from Kentville, but my deadline is to be done with that by Jan 1 and back in Kentville. Kentville 1+2 were trouble, but the last edits only took a few months, each one is taking less time, but I do go through a lot of edits. Once I get 'Kentville 1' out, hopefully by fall, '23, 'For The Record' will follow quickly, it has to, and then the others every year at the latest. I'm pretty sure I can stick to that schedule. |
